Reimaging Society is organizing a webinar series in collaboration with U75 Dialogue on very interesting topics that are usually not addressed and we do have many unanswered questions that need to be answered.
Here we are with an interesting and insightful webinar series- “In house wellbeing series” where we are going to address or discuss on very certain and important topics. Take a look below on the brief of the topics we are going to discuss in the In-hose wellbeing:
Unemployment:
The need to integrate Unemployment factor arose due to rising in the cases of suicides and mental health issues as a result of the ongoing COVID-19 outbreak. Due to novel coronavirus, the economic crisis is hitting young people harder and faster than any other group. Young people have to face many hard situations including disruption to education and training, employment and income losses, and greater difficulties in finding a job. According to the International Labour Organisation (ILO) published on May 27, 2020, 305 million people lost their job due to COVID-19 outbreak. The number is higher than ever where millions and millions are losing their job and facing pay cut. Needless to say, the unemployment rate is already high before the novel coronavirus appeared in the globe. So, it’s high time to address the issue and execute the possible solutions. By looking at how alarming the situation is, our organization planned to conduct a session for those people who are directly suffering from these factors. The webinar will focus on a lot of mental and wellbeing issues and address its solutions. Issues based on early intervention mental health service programs, targeted at the unemployed experiencing mental health problems can be discussed and resolutions for reducing the personal costs of unemployment and improving the efficiency of the labor market can be worked upon.
So, Reimagining Society has planned to look out for such feasible solutions. Questions based on such backgrounds will be taken and successive solutions for them will be carried out in the webinar.
Family Wellbeing; Overcoming Domestic Abuse:
The current global phenomenon of covid-19 has resulted in drastic changes in the ways we live and interact as family and community members. This is due to the isolation, lock-down and work from home rules.
While these rules have provided an opportunity for some families to spend quality time together, the United Nations reports that cases of domestic abuse have increased by 20% during this global covid-19 pandemic period. This is because individuals are trapped with being abused at home. The victims of domestic abuse are usually the people who have a very deep social relationship with their near and dear ones
The spike in domestic abuse pauses a threat to the wellbeing of various groups of people in our society including, men, women, children, LGBT+ and the youth. It is paramount that a decisive step is taken collectively to discuss ways to maintain family wellbeing while overcoming the domestic abuse exacerbated by the COVID-19 preventive measures.
This webinar will provide more insights on cases of domestic abuse during this period and offer tips on how we can collectively overcome domestic abuse in our communities. We will also hear from our participants from across the globe on how they are maintaining an optimal state of wellbeing within their families and communities.
Suicide Prevention:
According to many sources Suicide is the third leading cause of death in 15-19-year-olds and 79% of global suicides occur in low- and middle-income countries. According to WHO statistics close to 800 000 people die due to suicide every year, which is one person every 40 seconds. Suicide is a global phenomenon and occurs throughout the lifespan.
While the link between suicide and mental disorders (in particular, depression and alcohol use disorders) is well established in high-income countries, many suicides happen impulsively in moments of crisis with a breakdown in the ability to deal with life stresses, such as financial problems, relationship break-up or chronic pain and illness. With this current situation going on in the world, the mental health of people has been deteriorating tremendously.
At some point in life we’ve confided in people who did not know what to do and even we as individuals were afraid to ask for help from people we did not know. While this workshop is being organized with the purpose of spreading awareness about mental health and things which can help a person during their dark times.
·ELDERLY WEBINAR:
Elderly people are usually taken for granted and they are not given importance but Reimaging society wishes to be vocal on this particular topic and address them in a proactive manner.
COVID 19 has an unprecedented effect on the lives of people especially the elderly. A report from the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine (NASEM) points out that more than one-third of adults aged 45 and older feel lonely, and nearly one-fourth of adults aged 65 and older are considered to be socially isolated. While we must be knowing that aging comes with a myriad of psychological, social, and environmental vulnerabilities, social distancing, though a major strategy to fight COVID‐19, is also a major cause of loneliness, particularly in settings like nursing‐care or old‐age homes which is an independent risk factor for depression, anxiety disorders and can also have a long-standing psychological effects.
We basically know that misinformation and uncertainty between elderly is a major problem. They may be unaware of the updates related to the COVID-19 situation making them easy targets of misinformation and inadequate precautionary measures. We can clearly observe that relation of elderly and the young generation is not so positive these days.
Conclusion:
We certainly know that these topics are very sensitive in nature and are very less spoken in the public domains. But as young change makers we have to find possible ways to tackle these sensitive issues and vocalize our voice. So, we would cordially invite you to the In-House wellbeing webinar series and find out some very interesting facts and possible solutions.
